The City of Spearfish and the South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) are committed to ensuring safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation solutions for our growing community. As Spearfish continues to experience significant growth and development, we are conducting a comprehensive study of Colorado Boulevard to assess both current and future transportation needs.
Our Goals
The Colorado Boulevard Corridor Study aims to:
- Enhance Traffic Safety – Identify and address safety concerns along the corridor.
- Plan for Growth – Analyze current and future land use to align transportation improvements with development.
- Improve Intersection Operations – Evaluate how intersections function today and how they can be improved.
- Forecast Future Traffic – Predict traffic patterns to ensure long-term efficiency.
- Develop Prioritized Solutions – Identify and rank necessary infrastructure improvements.
- Engage the Community – Work closely with the public and stakeholders to incorporate feedback.
- Conduct Environmental Screening – Assess potential environmental impacts of proposed improvements.
- Provide a Strategic Plan – Develop a recommended schedule for future transportation projects.
Project Scope
The study focuses on Colorado Boulevard from N 27th Street to U.S. Highway 85, examining ways to enhance connectivity, improve traffic flow, and support the long-term needs of residents, businesses, and visitors.
By proactively addressing transportation challenges, this study will help guide infrastructure investments that benefit the entire community. We welcome your input and look forward to working together to create a safer and more efficient corridor for everyone.
